Sustainable transport
When speaking sustainable transport, rail freight is sure winning. Rail freight has some unique environmental benefits and is a sustainable and climate-friendly transport solution that reduces CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. A shift from especially air- or road transport to rail freight can be very beneficial for the society and the environment.
With our environmentally friendly rail transport, we offer solutions that reduce CO2 emissions with up to 80% compared with conventional road transport.
Rail freight is to contribute to reducing the total co2 EMISSIONS
In 2011, the EU Commission adopted a target for the transport sector to reduce CO2 emissions within the sector by 60% by 2015. This was to happen by among others move cargo from air and road to rail. At the same time, medium-term rail travel for passengers was developed, including in particular the development of high-speed railways. By 2050 the transport sector will strive to obtain a neutral rail system, which also include the sectors suppliers of e.g. electricity. Within the energy field, a sub-target has been set, which is to reduce power consumption by 30% and by 2050 has reduced the power consumption with 50%. In addition, Nox and PM10 emissions and noise targets have been set.
The paris agreement
In 2015, 195 countries entered into the Paris Agreement, which is a climate agreement to ensure that man-made climate change is reduced. Here it was agreed that all countries included were to reduce CO2 emissions as quickly as possible. Further, all countries included were to ensure that future sustainable development is considered. In addition, together the countries must try to keep the earth's temperature rise below two degrees and work towards keeping this rise at one and a half degrees compared to 1850, where industrialization really started.
A shift from conventional transport solutions to rail freight can help in achieving the goals of the climate agreement.
As far as possible, we transport goods by train. We offer tailor made solutions where we most often combine sustainable rail freight with the truck's high flexibility to get the goods delivered right to the door. We are increasingly using trucks that meet the highest euro standards and operate in a way that uses the least diesel fuel.
Shortsea can also prove to be an optimal transport solution for both your company and the environment. Here we sail goods from, for example, Spain to Scandinavia instead of carrying it by truck. This leads to a bit longer transit time, but the solution is more environmentally friendly and often cheaper as well.
